Radiation Heat Transfer

Image
View Factor Orientation (or View factor or shape factor) plays an important role in radiation heat transfer. View factor is defined as, "fraction of radiation leaving surface 'i' and strike 'j' ". Summation Rule (View Factor) If there is are similar surfaces 'i' and 'j' , then: Blackbody Radiation Exchange Radiation Exchange between Opaque, Diffuse, Gray surfaces in an Enclosure 1. Opaque 2. Surfaces 3. Two surface enclosure Radiation Shield It is used to protect surfaces from radiation act like a reflective surface. Piping Or Industrial Process Of Piping

Image
Industrial Process Of Piping: Industrial process of piping involves the usage of piping to transport fluids between storage tanks and processing equipment. Types Of Piping: Plumbing  Civil Piping Transportation Piping Uses Of Industrial Piping: Water  Natural Gas  Electric Power Specially items like paper pulp or liquid foods  Sewer Storm drains, etc. Pipe Drafting: Pipe can be drawn into two forms Double-line & Single-line . Pipe drafting utilizes many different types of drawings: Flow Diagrams  Structural and Site plans Mechanical and Instrumentation Drawings Iso-Symbols Of Fittings: It is a mechanical tool which is used to join two or more components together. Iso-Symbols Of Flanges: A flange is a method of connecting pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment to form a piping system. Iso-Symbols Of Valves: A valve is a device that regulates the flow of fluids, fluidised solids, slurries...

Intersection Of Solids

Image
Intersection Of Solids: Solids are obtained by the combination of of two or more basic solids. When two or more solids combine, a definite curve/line is seen at their intersection. This curve/line is called curve/line of intersection (COI / LOI) and it is the result of inter-penetration of solids. Applications Of Intersection Of Solids: Designing a sheet metal objects. Automobile Parts. Moulding patterns. Forged end of connecting road. Intersection of two contacting surface, etc. Inter-Penetration Of Solids: When one solids penetrates another solids then their surfaces intersect and at the junction of intersection a typical curve is formed, which remains common to both solids. This curve is called Curve of Intersection and it is a result of inter-penetration of solids. Cases Of Intersection Of Solids: First we need to discuss the general solution steps of how we draw intersection of solids diagram. So know, we are going to discuss the basic steps:...

Isometric Projection Of Solids

Image
Isometric Drawing: A type of pictorial projection in which all three dimensions of an object are shown in one view. In this 3-D drawing of an object, all three dimensional axes are maintained at equal inclinations with each other , i.e. 120 degrees. All mutual perpendicular plane surfaces of an object and the edges formed by these surfaces are equally inclined to POP. When orthographic views are given, a good imagination is needed to visualize the object in 3-D space.   Some Important Terms: The angle between these axes are equal i.e. 120 degrees, so called Isometric Axes . The line parallel to these axes are called Isometric Lines . The planes representing the cube are called Isometric Planes . The reduction is approximately 0.815. It forms a reducing scale which is used to draw isometric projection and is called Isometric Scale . True-length Distances are shown along isometric lines.  Isometric line is the line that run parallel to any of the isomet...

Assembly Drawings & Development Of Solids And Sectioned Solids

Image
Assembly Drawings: It is drawing of machine with all of its components located and identified. Ballooning: In Assembly Drawing, a part is located and identified by using a circle containing the part number and a leader line that points to the corresponding part. Development Of Solids & Sectioned Solids  Development Of Solids: A graphical method of obtaining an area of the surfaces of a solid is termed as Development Of Solids  OR It is the unfold/ unrolled /plane figure of a 3-D object. For Example:      1. When a solid is opened out and its complete surface is laid on a plane, the surface of the solid is said to be developed.      2. A piece of paper having the shape of sector is rolled so that its extreme edges meet, we get a cone.      3. A rectangle sheet when rolled so that extreme edges meet, we get a cylinder. Types Of Development Of Solids: There are two types of Develo...

Orthographic Projections

Image
Projection: The term Projection is defined as: Presentation of an image or an object on a surface. The principles used to graphically represent 3-D objects and structures on 2-D media and it based on two variables: Line of Sight.  Plane of Projection.  Line of Sight & Plane of Projection: Line of sight is divided into 2 types: Parallel Projection Converging Projection  & A plane of projection is an imaginary flat plane upon which the image created by the lines of sight is projected. Orthographic Projection: When the projectors are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the plane of projection. The lines pf sight of the observer create a view on the screen. The screen is referred to as the Plane of Projection (POP). The lines of sight are called Projection lines or projectors. Rules of Orthographic Projection: Edges that are parallel to a plane of projection appear as lines. Edges that are incl...

Engineering Curves

Image
Conics: It is defined as; Conics are the curves formed by the intersection of a plane with a right circular cone.   Ellipse: It is created when a plane passes through a right circular cone at an angle to the axis that is greater than the angle between the axis and the sides. Parabola: It is created when a plane intersects a right circular cone parallel to the side of the cone. Hyperbola: It is created when a plane passes through a right circular cone at an angle to the axis that is smaller than do the elements. Cycloid: It is a locus of a point on the periphery of a circle which rolls on a straight line path. Involute: It is a locus of a free end of a string when it is wound round on a circular pole. Epi-Cycloid: The path traced out by a point on the edge of a circle of radius rolling on the outside of a circle of radius. Hypo-Cycloid: The curve produced by fixed point on the circumference of a small circle of radius rollin...
